unknown magic
Chapter I - My personal hell [part1]
Written by Tadi

I woke up in the middle of the night. My nightmares have been getting worse. I stare at the ugly grey ceiling and wonder what it would be like to have a family. I live at The Eurynome orphanage in London. Actually, scratch that. I am a prisoner at the orphanage and it sucks! Yes sucks with the capital S. It’s like living in hell. No actually I think hell is more pleasant than here. I mean at least they get cookies in hell. What do we get? We get to do chores all day and eat leftovers for dinner. I lost both of my parents when I was just a baby. They didn't tell me exactly what happened to them but one day I overheard the keepers saying that my father was killed and my mother probably abandoned me because she didn't want a freak like me. Honestly, their rude comments don’t bother me much. I've been in this shit hole for 17 years now. It’s about time I get out. But it’s not that easy. I've been talking with my friends, Anna and Lacey about escaping. It won’t be easy but it can be done.

I stood up and tiptoed to the bathroom. It’s a bit cleaner than the bedroom but that’s just because we make sure to give it an extra scrub. The mirror is broken so you can barely see yourself but at least the sink is working. I washed my face and stared at my dysfunctional reflection. Even with the bruises and scars on my face I look decent. I've never thought of myself as beautiful and I'm way to skinny, since we hardly get anything to eat. I don’t even remember if my hair’s always been brown or if it’s just permanently ruined from all the dust and dirt. I trace the scar under my eye with my finger, it hurts but it’s bearable. I lift up my shirt and look at the huge purplish bruise on my stomach. I got that one two days ago. I was cleaning outside, raking leaves, when all of a sudden one of the keepers, Lauren came running outside. She came up to a little girl named Lily who was playing in the leaves I was raking. She hit her and yelled at her. Everyone was just watching, none of them tried to help, they didn't even budge. I ran at her and pushed her away, which was a big mistake. On the good side, she left Lily alone, but on the bad side, she came after me. She hit me with the rake right in the stomach. I collapsed to the ground and just sat there. I felt like crying because of the pain but I couldn't, I wouldn't let her see me cry. Never. I let my shirt fall back down and washed my face again. The cold water on my face felt like heaven.
